A Brief History
Originating from early Renaissance Balls to Vaudeville and even the Victorian era, ballroom dancing has a rich and varied history. It also has a very strong Latin influence. Several occurrences happened to eventually forge together what is now modern ballroom dancing. First, people in social gatherings started to move away from dances where everyone on the floor moved in sequences to being focused more on the individual couples moving in unison. Shortly after the turn of the century the rise and growing popularity of Jazz also helped with its growing popularity, since dance is so strongly tied to music. Early musicals like the ones starring Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers also helped to push it towards becoming a trendy and admired form of dance.
